It has been a long time coming, the first leaks of the Miyoo Flip was back in October 2023, now over a year later we can finally pre-order it and expect shipping to begin on the 5th January. It has been officially listed on AliExpress by Miyoo themselves. i did see that it has made […]
You know, a used Vita is definitely a vibe too. Sadly, they’re a lot more expensive, I’d wager, for similar reasons. Can it go even higher in terms of emulation?
Not really, the Vitas are actually quite bad for emulation. They do have the advantage of natively running PSP and Vita games, which are possible to emulate but not ideal on these SBC handhelds.
But as far as everything else goes, the Vita’s CPU is surprisingly underclocked and the GPU drivers for homebrew are quite undercooked. A simple RetroArch shader that a $50 handhelds handles just fine is enough to overwhelm the Vita, and don’t expect to emulate anything more complex than the PS1 with good performance.
This might be a big suprise, but if you want a “first party” handheld to emulate you want a New 3DS, not the Vita. The New 3DS will natively run 3DS, DS and GBA games, and emulate the PS1 better than a Vita. Though again, it won’t handle the shaders and advancements that even a cheap chinese handheld can handle nowadays.
Kinda crazy how much manufacturers can cram into these little devices nowadays.
Can definitely vouch for the 3DS family tho. Don’t have a New 3DS but have been very contempt with both my original 3DS XL and my 2DS
Yea even over clocked to max the PSVita could only really push so far with emulators. Although it was fun to explore the evolutions through the years with the emulation scene.
It’s a you had to be there situation. I’mpressive for what it’s worth. But most things can do it better now.
