The reason why Latin America was so threatening to the US is because so much share a similar culture and only two languages… Spanish and Portuguese (which are also very similar) and have the revolutionary vigor of heroes such as Comandante Fidel Castro and el Compañero Ernesto “Che” Guevara, then the new USSR will rise.

TSA is so bizarre, they’re literally on guard for a terrorist attack that became unfeasible DURING 9/11 when that one flight crashed in a field in Pennsylvania because the passengers fought back. Not to mention they’ve deadbolted the cockpit doors, there’s always a chance of an Air Marshal on the flight and many pilots are armed…

Some claim they could “simply” bomb the plane. As if it were that easy. Explosives are tightly regulated and controlled and even a homemade 9/11 event simply isn’t happening. Look at every other airplane based attacker from the shoe-bomber, to the underwear bomber to the guy that tried to mix the liquid explosives in the lavatory. Which apparently wouldn’t work, anything liquid that’s unstable enough to be a high explosive couldn’t be casually brought in your hand luggage, and “mixing a binary explosive” in the bathroom is extremely difficult.

The rural areas are still quite bad (compared to the big cities that are amazing), unlike Western Europe where even backwaters are pleasant (the US is halfway between both though).

If you want to understand it more at an electoral level even though as Marxists we reject these terms, the 2016 election showed that Republicans are likely to lose presidential elections in perpetuity due to the dying white Boomer demographic. Young latinos (especially Mexicans and Puertoricans) have been shifting towards a progressive view. The fear existed that Republicans might have to become more moderate. Jeb Bush was that plan, but they had two alternatives Ted Cruz for attempting a right-ward shift and Trump for a hyper-right turn. I don’t think the GOP even expected the Trump style to catch on but it has. Now even most Democrats are to the right of Mitt Romney on immigration which is obvious (to us) but sad.

The idea of a blanket amnesty is over, which Biden very much has the authority to grant but WON’T because his corporate interests far outweigh his electoral ambitions.

Nerd culture saw itself as white (or certain east-asian), male, middle class plus and in the developed world. It was bound to devolve into reactionary thought. The only pro I see is its tendency to be accepting or at least ambivalent towards transpeople, even 4chan (outside of /pol/) seems to be more accepting towards trans than their political opinions of everything else.

The book, even though it’s liberal, It Came from Something Awful makes a great point about how the “alt-right”… or fascism, just funnels anti-establishment sentiment given that liberals are content as positioning themselves as the “norm” and foolishly believe “the system” will protect them. They honestly believe that if Trump actually starts to become a dictator that the military leadership will turn against the far-right and fight on the left-facing side, that’s literally never happened in all of history. Whenever these maniacs outwardly announce their desires for civil war, liberals think the police and military will be the ones fighting the conservatives for their side. The actual left in the West has been pathetic at trying to reach out to the disaffected rural and small ex-manufacturing town poor population fucked over by capitalism but aren’t aware of it and are charmed by fascist charlatans because even dumb racist, sexist, homophobic explanations for their problems is better than absolutely nothing.

Look how MSNBC and the NYT squirm trying to convince an American population that never recovered from from the Great Recession nor the pandemic and are told to say they’re dumb, and to “look at GDP, it’s never been higher!” Even if so much of that is artificial trillions of dollars authorized to be printed by the Federal Reserve because NMT proves that any nation with a sovereign currency can’t actually spend their way into inflation.
