For the past day or so every time I try to open Jerboa it just crashes immediately without an error message why. Is there any scheduled update/fix for Jerboa? I’d like to be able to browse on mobile again and really enjoyed the app while it was working.
-posted from my pc (only because I can’t get the app to work)
Connect is working the wellest for me
I was using Jerboa and I switched to connect and I can confirm. It works much weller.
Connect dev here. Weller is what I strive for! Glad you’re enjoying it.
Same here. Jeroba would randomly crash. Connect hasn’t yet.
I downloaded thunder from izzydroid and can confirm i am welled by the performance.

I find wefwef works the wellest (so far, anyway)
I’m currently using wefwef to reply to you, I use them both interchangeably, but Connect has more formatting options in the markdown editor, whereas Wefwef expects you to just remember how to format anything in markdown. Both experience errors constantly.
It’s not working for me. So I switched to Liftoff.
Same. Won’t let me log in. Liftoff is fantastic though!
Try Thunder: https://github.com/hjiangsu/thunder
You can install and autoupdate using: https://github.com/ImranR98/Obtainium
I already have Thunder, Connect, Summit, Liftoff and Jerboa. I just thought I would play with all of them for a few weeks until I find the one I like best.
You should also check out wefwef. It’s very full-featured already and is getting updated constantly.
I did it. It just looks very specifically designed in the style of iOS. It’s not bad though.
How you like them so far? Anything you are partial about?
They’re all pretty early in development so they have their bugs but so far I like Liftoff and Thunder the best. They both have a great UI. Jerboa was the one I started with first but now I am not able to login because of the whole lemmy.world version number thing.
I see. Imma go and try liftoff and thunder then , thanks you very much.
Same here. Liftoff is great.
Try connect
Just installed liftoff to try it out and unfortunately have to say that I like the layout even BETTER than Jerboa!
I feel a weird sense of loyalty to Jerboa because it was my first app for Lemmy but I might actually like Liftoff better.
Thanks for the suggestion!
I changed some settings to make it look better to me. I’m happiest with liftoff right now.
I had to clear all memory (not just the cache) then relogin. That sorted it. But I’ve since moved to Connect
I am using webweb.app which is a PWA Apollo clone. Its a bit weird cause the UI is iOS based, but it’s by far the smoothest and full featured all I tried so far!
Scrolling is like butter, I can customize text size, and from comment reply notifications it actually directly opens the thread to the comment, and also highlights the comment which i love! Is liftoff and thunder similarly full featured?
I think you meant wefwef.app?
Oops, pesky autocorrect. This also has infinite scrolling which I didn’t even realize at first and what made the Lemmy feel so clunky on mobile before - that is definitely the biggest thing that makes this my favorite now.
I just stayed off the fediverse while new users signed up and jerboa is back and working for me on android.
Its working fine for me.
I have the same issue. Deleting app data and cache stopped the crash at the start, but I cannot log into my account. It seems the reason for the crash was that the lemmy instance I’m on (and that I was still logged into) uses version 17.x, when Jerboa requires 18.x.
They fixed it this morning, but it’s still being buggy for me. I think it’s more on Lemmy’s/.world’s side, at this point. That being said, I’m starting to like wefwef a lot.
Personally I’m using it to hold me over till Sync for Lemmy is released
Definitely
I’ve been periodically installing and uninstalling it on my phone for the past 10 days. Never managed to launch it. Crashes after a second or two every time.
Im using Connect for Lemmy on android. It seems to working fine so far.
Used Jerboa but switched to wefwef on mobile and it’s the best mobile app imho at the moment.
I actually have issues with wefwef now, gives me a lot of errors.
But I think the next days will be a little rough because of many new signups.
Maybe there are still older files in your installation that cause the errors? Have you tried to completely remove it?
Since its a webapp it uses your mobile browser. So maybe another browser would work better.
This app crashes on boot for me. Could not even get it to open.
Same for me
Latest Jerboa requires a specific server version and not every server has updated yet.
There are a lot of other app options! Like Thunder, Connect or Summit
What’s Summit? Never heard of it.
Dev of Summit here. It is a lemmy reader like the other apps mentioned. You can find it on the play store by searching “app for lemmy” or “lemmy reader”. I’m actually releasing a big update today. Here’s a preview of the feature: https://youtube.com/shorts/8mIVZflUHhU?feature=share.
Oh that’s beautiful! I look forward to giving it a go!
The only one I could find on the Play store is Liftoff. I guess the others have to be downloaded from elsewhere.
Hmm, jerboa shows up on mine, I can post a pic if you’d like
Summit should be on the playstore. Try searching “app for lemmy” or “lemmy reader”.
I found Summit later on, and it didn’t work well for me.
Oh no :(. If you’re up for it, I am open to feedback. You can send feedback either here or over at https://lemmy.world/c/summit. But if you don’t want to I understand.
Well it was as laggy as the other apps, because of the update and the increase of signups. Also I found it difficult to navigate, to find the right buttons to push to access a certain thing. I know it’s early days and I’m sure your app will improve in time, and I’ll try it again later.
You can download Thunder from IzzyOnDroid (you can add this as a repository to F-Droid).
Yesterday when I tried, it told me that the instance wasn’t up to date and didn’t work, so I tried a different app. Liftoff is proving to be my favorite so far.
With latest updates with app and server-side it’s a lot more stable now. It will be weeks to months until the infrastructure can absorb new users.
