You can have an iPhone automatically backup to a computer. It can either do it automatically when it’s plugged in to the computer, or you can turn WiFi backups on, and it will automatically back up when it’s connected to a charger.
The backup experience isn’t too different than what has been happening with iPods for over two decades.
IMHO, a more practical piece of advice would be “wait a week or two before installing point larger point releases.”
People are going to use cloud backups. They like the convenience too much.
To be honest, it is not so easy to do backups of iOS devices without the cloud
Connect to your computer and click backup when iTunes pops up if you’re running windows. To be honest it’s very easy.
Everything but automatic. And non automatic backups might as well not exist.

Really? It works over WiFi? Well then I take back my previous comment. I thought it works only when plugged in to the pc.
