I rewatched “Petite Maman” (I think it actually was the Criterion edition) and loved it even more the second time. The kid actors in particular were extraordinary. Helped obviously that they were twins but they were so good together. And I normally think kid actors are terrible.

The most amazing thing (spoilers I suppose) was the scene where Marion talks about her dream of becoming an actress, and Nellie’s face falls for a tiny fraction of a second, and then recovers. Marion doesn’t notice but we the audience do. That’s normal for movies except that the actress was eight years old when she did that. How? How do you find a little kid who can do that, and how does a director get that performance?

I just watched Space Balls for the first time. My god, it’s the corniest movie I’ve ever seen. I did like the 4th wall break in the middle, but that’s about it.

Mel Brooks’ style of humor can definitely get corny sometimes. Spaceballs is better depending on how much of a Star Wars fan you are. I think Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles gets the humor mixture better.
