Stellaris. It’s been “that game” for me practically as long as I’ve been into gaming. I’ve got nearly 1000 hours on Steam alone.
Morrowind
One of my two favorite games of all time. I wish I could unlearn how to play. Some of my best memories are scavenging for anything remotely valuable and finding myself somewhere I shouldn’t be at that level.
For me, it’s any of the Total War games I like, or Battlefield 1, or Left 4 Dead 2, or any From Soulslike.
I like to call them evergreen games, because I’m a total snob. The kinds of games that you can always go back to no matter how long it’s been, that you always know how to play by instinct at this point, that always entertain, feel weirdly comfy and make for great choices when you don’t know what you wanna do. God bless them.
Which total wars though
That’s a decently long list lol, Medieval 2, Rome 1, Rome 2, Attila, Napoleon, Shogun 2 sorta… (I don’t dislike the ones not listed, I just vibe less with them)
If you count mods and expansions, the list gets much larger, Medieval 2 Kingdoms, Empire Divided, Age of Charlemagne, The Great War, Divide Et Impera, 1212, 1100, The Third Age… And there are even more that have piqued my interest but haven’t had a chance to play.
Aaaah it’s such a rich series!
The Binding of Isaac
Or Slay the Spire, if I want a turn based game.
You should check out Across the Obelisk, it’s a beefed up version of StS and I really think it’s heavily overlooked
It’s on my steam wishlist, now. Thank you for the recommendation.
KSP with the realism overhaul mod and realistic progression 1.
I just never get over the beauty of seeing a dual centaur upper stage gently drift away from an atlas booster before lighting up those stunning twin blue flames, careening deep in to the abyss of space.
Yeah it’s Europe 1400: the guild for me too. Love that game and can’t get behind the second or third game. I loved to play it over lan with my friends.
1400 is a masterpiece. It’s a shame that the sequels went for this 3D sims styled gameplay. I don’t want to control the whole family. I want to control one member of the family.
It has so much atmosphere to it, I don’t think any other game has truly replicated it so far. Haven’t tried the third yet but I heard bad things.
The third works but that’s it. It was a buggy mess when it got into early access but the second developer that took it over did good work.
You are right. The atmosphere and that you did not have to micro manage so much stuff made it into a really great and relaxing game.
I loved to play it over lan with my friends.
Or as a true Guild player describes it: “keeping save game backups and doing regular checks to figure out if the game state is still in sync”. “The Guild” was the reason I got a “It’s not a bug, it’s a feature” T-Shirt for LAN parties.
And don’t get me wrong: I am saying the game is SO GOOD it was totally worth all that trouble. I wish so hard for someone to release/leak the source code some time so someone with enough pain tolerance can try to rework the network stack. Or maybe a remaster of that game. It has a so much better feeling than its successors.
I would buy four copies if they would make a remaster/remake with the possibility to play over the internet. Damn… gonna install it again and I will start looking at creating a vpn server.
In my experience the sync issues get much worse over VPN. The implementation seems to be extremely timing sensitive.
Oh and over the internet you don’t have the chance to quickly look over to your pals monitors to notice that their current court hearing scene looks different from yours (at which point you can alt+f4 and look for the last good savegame).
thats a shame… Then i will have to play solo.
No need to change the meme, heroes 3 it is. A few other games as well but heroes doesn’t get old.
Slay The Spire
Final Fantasy games. I’ve replayed FFV and VIII, restarted X and XII, and started XVI within the last year.
Playing Heroes of the Storm vs AI, the Hitman WoA trilogy, Left 4 Dead 2, and Diablo 3 Hardcore. I can always chill on this stuff and know it’ll be a good time
Ahh HOTS, the only MOBA I really enjoyed. To bad it never really took off and Blizz stopped development.
It’s funnily enough part of why I continue to return to it. Competitive games as a service are too much, I dislike having to keep up with an ever inflating hero pool and a constantly changing Meta. I can just enjoy the gameplay polished to a sheen and the natural depth
Minecraft. It’s so dang cozy to me.
XCom 2
Deus Ex:Human Revolution. I know every part of that game and still find some fun paths/solutions I didn’t know about, comforting with a bit of variety every time!
It was Diablo for me, but D4 just doesn’t scratch that right itch for me at the moment. Still play it from time to time but not as religiously as I did with the other entries.
Enter the gungeon I also play a lot over starting a new game.
but D4 just doesn’t scratch that right itch for me at the moment.
Try Grim Dawn. The graphics are mildly dated, but it’s my favorite entry in the ARPG genre. Tons of replayability.
ROCK and STONE to the bone
That’s it lads! Rock and Stone!
