Last year, Monash University scientists created the “DishBrain” – a semi-biological computer chip with some 800,000 human and mouse brain cells lab-grown into its electrodes. Demonstrating something like sentience, it learned to play Pong within five minutes. They allowed the brain cells to act on the paddle, moving it left and right. So if the paddle hit the ball, the cells would receive a nice, predictable stimulus. Nice, singularity is coming sooner than I hoped for
What will happen if computer chip can only be accessed after a subscription fees. “You can’t use your brain Please Subscribe to Annual Plan” will be the error
Look at cars same thing has happened with them, Mercedes locks faster acceleration behind a $1,200 annual paywall
Someone will figure out a way to bypass it. Piracy wins!
That was an uncomfortable read, I’m not gonna fucking lie.
Or Judgement Day.
Why not both!
A combined organic and electronic intelligence would know the punchline to every joke hours in advance! Like watching Leno!
So they’ve invented servitors. This is deeply disturbing
The human brain tissue is not, has never been, and will never be, an individual. You’re fearmongering.
Sure. This still puts me on edge though. Hell, I’m in favour of stem cell research and this still sketches me out
In life, and in death, we all serve the emperor.
If you are interested in the process of making these things.

This was absolutely fascinating. Thanks for posting this.
We’re full steam ahead to a cyberpunk dystopia, and I’m here for it
We’re all here for it… whether we like it or not.
Or something out of a David Cronenberg movie
I started watching a dude the other day who put up one video so far chronicling a journey of using these kind of brain cell computer chips to make something that can play Doom.
I may be remembering wrong but I think it might be someone who worked on that pong thing… He briefly talked about it in the video I mention above.
I really can’t wait for the second part. The first one was mostly about how he set up the growth medium and fed the cells, as well as showing off the chips and what problems they ran into so far doing things the way they were doing them. Next one is supposed to get more into the doing stuff and I am hella interested in that.
The Thought Emporium - Growing Living Rat Neurons To Play… DOOM?
That’s the one!
