You know what else you don’t hear

“What, that place? That one right there? Yeah, that place is like heaven on earth.”

Never, but you hear the opposite all the time.

More, so, you’ll often hear people caught doing something wrong claim that the devil made them do it or that something bad is the devils work.

    You know why?

    Because the devil is busy

Imagine they swapped jobs and, instead, we had a devil we never heard anything from and a busy ass god making heaven on earth all over the place.

I had to lock the cat in. I’ve been home for less than an hour, and the little bastard has gone in and out 6 times. It’s pissing of rain, and he goes out, gets soaked, comes in and yells until I dry him off…the goes right back out…
Like, buddy, I appreciate your plight, but I can’t turn off the sky leak…

Limbo isn’t purgatory. You don’t ever move on from limbo. Purgatory is a transitory state before you’re judged and sent to heaven or hell.

Meaning that “purghaps” is more linguistically related to a “maybe,” something that can become a yes or a no, than “being in limbo” because things in limbo stay in limbo.

For just a bit more pedantry…

Ackshullay, everyone who goes to Purgatory eventually will get to Heaven. They did not commit any mortal sins during life that would send them straight to Hell, and just have to work off the venal sins they committed before going to Heaven. Dante characterized Purgatory as a mountain, where you start at the level of your worst venal sin, and you have to do whatever punishment on that level for an amount of time that purifies you of that sin, then you go up to the level of the next worse sin and do that for however long. You continue climbing the mountain until you reach the top, called Earthly Paradise, where the river Lethe runs. You drink from the river Lethe and forget about all that punishment, then go through a ring of fire that further purifies you, THEN you get to go to the level of Heaven that your greatest deed has made you eligible for.

Sooo, really Purgatory doesn’t really work any better than limbo would. Really, no place in the afterlife as conceived by the old Church would really be appropriate for the meme.

Here’s an overview of Dante’s conception of the universe.

Here are the levels of Purgatory
